Listed Buildings   Recent Work
57 High Street, Ashwell, Hertfordshire.

The original house is a grade 2 listed building believed to date from the 16th century and is one of a terrace of timber framed buildings.

This small extension comprising a dining room, utility room and shower / WC is also timber framed in green oak.

This method of construction whilst being both traditional and in keeping kept disturbance of the existing building to a minimum, the extension being self supporting on shallow foundations.

Modern construction techniques enabled current insulation values to be exceeded whilst minimising wall thicknesses in order to make the most of internal space on a tight site. Direct glazing of the green oak frame maximised the amount of glass creating a direct link to the garden whilst maintaining light levels within the existing house. The use of oak weather boarding and handmade plain tiles are traditional to the area.
