A redevelopment of existing Church buildings in Taunton to update Church facilities. The demolition of old Sunday School and teaching rooms long past efficient and economic use enabled the construction of new teaching rooms, a crèche, and a meeting room all with the benefit of a small kitchen for catering and entertainment purposes. A caretakers flat was located at first floor level.
Daylight was maintained to the Church by the formation of an enclosed courtyard which was landscaped. A glazed walkway was formed around the courtyard linking the new buildings to both the Church and further rooms to the rear of the site.
The former arched doorways on the Church frontage were turned into window openings, allowing greater daylight to penetrate the building. The removal of two rows of pews increased the flexibility of the Church and enabled a new formal entrance to be made from the new building.
A new co-ordinated decoration programme inside and out completed the works. |
