This stone built former school set in the small village of Clayhanger in Devon was converted in the late 1950’s into a two bedroom cottage. Although cosy and compact, the cottage had little outlook and view of the south facing garden and rolling countryside.
With limited resources, it was decided to create a new living room, increased storage space and to replace the existing bathroom and hall.
The resulting extension, whilst modern in character has transformed the outlook of the cottage to create a deceptively spacious interior. Attention to detail has retained the traditional feel and scale of the building. The extensive glazing to the south and high standard of insulation has meant that in spite of larger floor area, the heating bills have remained constant. |
